The day, as they ran it
  1. 7:32 am1
Train to Lauterbrunnen, Postbus 141 to StechelbergLauterbrunnen

Interlaken Ost 07:32 gets you to Lauterbrunnen at 07:52 and onto the 08:04 Postbus with room to spare. Drive instead and you park in Stechelberg (Lauterbrunnen's multi-storey is the fallback) — Mürren and Gimmelwald are car-free, so the car stops here either way.

  2. 9 am2
Schilthornbahn: Stechelberg → Mürren → Birg → SchilthornStechelberg

Cars run every 20 minutes from 09:00 to 17:00 and the 17:00 is the genuine last one down — miss it and you are walking to Mürren. CHF 108 return from Stechelberg; halve it with a Swiss Travel Pass or Half Fare Card, which pays for itself on this day alone. Be on the 09:00: by 11:00 the queue at Stechelberg is two cars deep.

  3. 9:40 am3
Breakfast in Piz Gloria, the revolving restaurantMürren

One full rotation takes 45 minutes, so order and then stay put — the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau come round to you. Breakfast is the cheap sitting; the same view at lunch costs three times as much. The Bond exhibition next door is free and takes fifteen minutes.

  4. 10:45 am4
Birg: Thrill Walk and the Skyline Walk cantileverMürren

Included in the cable car ticket, which almost nobody realises — get off at Birg on the way down rather than buying anything extra. The metal-grate section over the drop is the point; go early in the day while it is still in shade and the grate is not slick with meltwater.

  5. 11:40 am5
Down to Mürren, funicular up to AllmendhubelMürren

Walk the Northface Trail from Allmendhubel and it is downhill-ish the whole way; start it from Mürren itself and you climb 400 m before the views begin. CHF 12 one way to skip that climb is the best money spent today.

    13 min walk · 950 m
  6. 12:15 pm6
    Lunch on the Suppenalp terraceMürren

Open roughly late June to early October and it lives up to the name — the soup is the order. Ten minutes off the trail below Allmendhubel; if it is shut, Schiltalp further along has an honesty box with cheese, bread and beer.

  7. 1:05 pm7
Northface Trail: Schiltalp, Spielbodenalp, the Sprutz waterfallGimmelwald

Follow the small green Northface squares on the yellow posts, not the general Mürren signs — they diverge twice. Walk it westward from Allmendhubel so the Eiger north face stays in front of you rather than behind. Take the Sprutz detour: the path goes behind the waterfall, and it is the only wet twenty metres of the day. Ends in Gimmelwald; the cable car back up to Mürren runs every 30 minutes.

  8. 4:30 pm8
Tandem paraglide off Mürren into the valleyMürren

CHF 199 for the standard flight and it is weather-called on the morning, so hold the slot rather than booking around it. Late afternoon air over Lauterbrunnen is calmer than midday thermals if you are nervous. Landing is on the valley floor in Lauterbrunnen, which conveniently is where your train home leaves from — do not buy a return cable car ticket you will not use.
